The history of  accounting begins with the earliest written records.  Only a small part of that fascinating history can be revealed here.  A combination of important secondary literature and primary source materials form the core of the University of Mississippi's Digital Accounting Collection. The seminal years of the Accounting Historians Journal, 1974-1992, are featured here for the first time as fully searchable texts. The primary source materials have been culled from the extensive collections of the library of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, now housed at the University of Mississippi Library.  The initial collections feature pamphlets from the early twentieth century which were published as practical guides to bookkeepers in various industries and organizations. Second, the exposure drafts issued by the AICPA, as a standards setting body, have become important and hard to find research materials for the contemporary accounting historian.  Finally, a small collection of accounting  art provides an entertaining glimpse into accounting through the ages.  We wish to especially thank the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Academy of Accounting Historians for providing materials and permissions for the  creation of these collections.
