BIOGRAPHY - Morris H. Stocks
Interim Provost and Senior Vice Chancellor for Planning and Operations

Morris H. Stocks serves as Interim Provost and Senior Vice Chancellor for Planning and Operations. In this latter role, Dr. Stocks chairs the University of Mississippi Strategic Planning Council and provides leadership in normal operations for the University. For the past four years, he has served as Dean of the Patterson School of Accountancy. During his tenure as Dean, the Patterson School was ranked as one of the top 25 accounting programs in the country for the first time in its history. Prior to his service as dean, Dr. Stocks was the Associate Provost for three years, with responsibilities for the academic budget and undergraduate curriculum. He received his undergraduate degree in accounting from Trevecca Nazarene University, his Masters degree from Middle Tennessee State University and his Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina. He is a Certified Public Accountant in the State of Mississippi.

Dr. Stocks is in his 16th year at the University of Mississippi and continues to teach Financial Accounting. He is the 1998 recipient of the University's most prized teaching honor, the Elsie M. Hood Outstanding Teacher Award. Dr. Stocks' primary research interest relates to the impact of financial accounting issues on the decision making process of users of accounting information. He has published in many of his profession's top academic and professional journals, including Accounting, Organizations and Society, Accounting Horizons, Behavioral Research in Accounting and Decision Sciences. He is a member of the American Accounting Association, The American Institute of CPAs, The Decision Sciences Institute, as well as several academic honorary societies.

Dr. Stocks and his wife, Cynthia, have four children.
