Dear Parents:
It is hard to believe that a new academic year has begun already. Once again, I want to thank every single one of you who shared your positive comments about our newsletter last semester, and I hope to hear from more of you, especially our new parents, as we continue this new tradition.
Carolina Orrego
So far the new academic year is off to a great start, and I am excited that your students are part of it. Fall here in Oxford is a wonderful time of the year that offers a lot of social and cultural opportunities for your students, especially those who are new to our campus and the city of Oxford. I encourage all of you to empower your students to get involved on campus and take advantage of all the opportunities we have here waiting for them.
With summer behind us, our efforts are now channeled to the new academic year. Most importantly, Fall Family Weekend on Sept. 7-8 is just around the corner, and we are so excited that you're coming to campus. Check our website for a preliminary schedule of events and a link to the registration page, so you can start making those hotel reservations and arranging to be here for a wonderful time. With that in mind, also check out the football schedule since lots of exciting SEC matches will take place here on campus.
This fall will be jampacked with opportunities to visit your students. I encourage all of you to find some time to experience both Ole Miss and Oxford. Get to know your students' circle of friends to truly understand what the Ole Miss family is all about as well as understand what your students experience day-to-day. While they may seem to be having a wonderful time right now as the excitement of a new year is still in the air, just know their state of mind might change in the coming weeks with the inevitable stress that tests and midterms bring. The great news is that no matter what happens, you and your students have a support system that will help you make it through the semester.
With that in mind, we are thrilled to welcome Brandi Hephner LaBanc, the new vice chancellor for student affairs, who will be a great resource for our students. As you read her welcome letter, you will realize her vision is very student-oriented, and her passion and dedication will help guide the division in the years to come. Along with her introduction, read about former Ole Miss student Brittney Reese, who just won Olympic gold in the long jump, and Marie Wicks, who was crowned Miss Mississippi this year and will compete in the Miss America pageant. In addition, check out the wonderful promotion for football tickets for you, the parents.
As always, call us, write us, and give us your feedback. We love hearing from you, and so do your students!
Warmest regards,
Carolina OrregoAssistant Director of Enrollment Services
