JULIA A AUBREY
Brief Bio
Julia Aubrey, Associate Professor of Music, is Vocal Area Head and Director of Opera Theatre at the University of Mississippi. She earned a Master of Music in Vocal Performance and a Master of Arts in Theatre from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Julia is President-Elect of the National Opera Association and has served as Vice-President of Regions, Southeast Regional Governor and Advertising Manager for NOA. As stage and musical director, opera productions include Suor Angelica/Gianni Schicchi, Carmen, Too Many Sopranos, La Perichole, Die Fledermaus, The Marriage of Figaro, The Ballad of Baby Doe, Tartuffe, The Magic Flute, The Merry Wives of Windsor, Street Scene, Cosi fan tutte, The Crucible, Orpheus in the Underworld, and seven Gilbert and Sullivan operettas. Her research, Creative Exercises for the Stage, has been featured at two national conventions and regional opera festivals. Under her direction, the Opera Theatre Ensemble won first place in the NOA's Opera Video Production Competition in 1998 and in 2010, won Third Place in the NOA Collegiate Opera Scenes Competition. Other professional positions include three years as the Opera Stage Director for the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival in Alaska, five years as Associate Artistic Director of the Oxford Shakespeare Festival, eleven years as Musical Director for the Department of Theatre's productions, and fourteen years as Director of Youth Music Theatre Workshop.
