UNIVERSITY OF MISSISSIPPI SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES


The Schools of Nursing and Pharmacy operate on both the Oxford and Jackson campuses. The Schools of Dentistry, Health Related Professionals and Medicine, and the Health Sciences Graduate School, are based in Jackson only. (Additional healthcare programs are available through the School of Applied Sciences on the Oxford campus.) Other than these exceptions, the schools above are on the Oxford campus.

Brief Bio

Willa M. Johnson is assistant professor of religion. She received her Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University in 1999, becoming only the third African-American woman to become a Hebrew Bible scholar. Dr. Johnson is completing a monograph for Sheffield Press (U.K.) based on her dissertation on intermarriage in Ezra- Nehemiah, and has expanded her interests to modern Judaism by examining the role of art in the Holocaust. She plans to apply for a postdoctoral fellowship at the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial and Museum in 2008. Dr. Johnson recently completed two articles and an Introduction to The People's Choice (Augsberg Fortress Press), a new version of the Bible. At the University of Mississippi she has taught "Introduction to Religion" as well as "Judaism," "Hebrew Scripture and Early Judaism," and "Women and the Judeo-Christian Tradition."
