The Conference
On April 30 and May 1, 2004, the Department of Political Science at Kent State University and State Politics and Policy Quarterly will co-sponsor the 4th Annual Conference on State Politics and Policy, to be held at Kent State University and Sheraton Suites Akron/Cuyahoga Falls.
The State Politics and Policy conference will run parallel to a national conference on state term limits (see their website) hosted by the University of Akron.
Hotel Information
Sessions for both conferences will be held at the Sheraton Suites in Akron/Cuyahoga Falls (http://www.sheratonakron.com/). Attendees can easily attend sessions at both conferences, and there will be shared breaks, lunches, dinners and excursions. You may reserve your rooms as soon as you like at Sheraton Suites Akron/Cuyahoga Falls, located a short 15-minute drive from Kent State University (phone 330.929.3000). Indicate you are part of the state politics conference in order to get special room rates. The conference-negotiated rate is $115.00 night is for a single, $125 for a double or $135 triple occupancy. The hotel overlooks consecutive waterfalls on the banks of the Cuyahoga River and rooms for conference participants have a river view. All rooms at the Sheraton are suites with a living room and a sleeping area, as well as a sliding door that can split the room, giving roommates additional privacy. The hotel is located next to a park in a safe area of numerous shops, restaurants and coffeehouses. Each morning guests will be served a full buffet breakfast in the hotel restaurant, for no additional charge.
Airport Information
The Akron Canton Regional Airport and Cleveland Hopkins International Airport are served by all major airline carriers as well as discount airlines such as Southwest Airlines and AirTran (previously ValueJet). Akron/Canton airport is 15 minutes from the hotel. Cleveland Hopkins airport is 35 minutes from hotel. Shuttle service can be arranged via the hotel to transport participants from the two airports to the conference hotel. Private shuttles are also available.
Local Travel Solutions (800-206-6961) will be providing shuttle service from the airport to the Sheraton Suites hotel at a reasonable rate for this area. We have used this service frequently over the years, and they are efficient and polite. Indicate you are part of the state politics conference. Rates are $20 each way from Cleveland Hopkins airport to the hotel and $15 each way from Akron-Canton airport. The hotel does have one van, and if you are flying in at an odd time, contact the hotel directly for a pick-up times (330.777.2245).
