Segregation Through the Lens : Introduction | John E. Phay Collection | Piney Wood School | Mississippi Industrial College
Introduction
This exhibit examines African American's education in Mississippi before integration. It includes photographs from the John E. Phay Collection taken to document the Mississippi public school system, as well as materials from two private black institutions established in the early 1900s -- the Piney Woods Country Life School and the Mississippi Industrial College. This exhibit is part of the yearlong observance of the 40th anniversary of the integration of the University of Mississippi. The exhibit is on display just outside the Department of Archives and Special Collections, in the J.D. Williams Library and will remain on view until April 1, 2003.
