Brief Bio
Dr. James W. Davis, Peery Professor of Accountancy, has been a member of the faculty since September, 1965. He received the BBA degree in accountancy in 1962, the MS in Accy in 1963 and the Ph. D. in Accy in 1972, all from the University of Mississippi. He is a Certified Public Accountant. He was a staff accountant with Arthur Andersen & Co. in the Houston office from 1963 to 1965. He had previous industrial and local public accounting experience. He served as dean of the Patterson School of Accountancy from 1993 to 2002. He holds memberships in AICPA, MSCPA, AAA, Beta Alpha Psi, Phi Kappa Phi, and Beta Gamma Sigma. He served as president of the Mississippi Society of CPAs in 1983-1984. He received the Elsie M. Hood Outstanding Teacher Award in 1985 and has received the Teacher of the Year award in the School of Accountancy five times including 2008. He received the MSCPA Outstanding Educator Award in 1993.
