Brief Bio
Dr. Chung R. Song joined The University of Mississippi in August, 2004. Before coming to Ole Miss, Dr. Chung R. Song taught at the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at Louisiana State University. Dr. Chung R. Song worked in the industry for more than 10 years. He was involved in many national and international projects that include soft soil improvements, geotechnical investigations, test embankments, geotechnical instrumentations, dam safety evaluation, after-use nuclear waste repository designs, underwater tunnel designs, reclamation work designs, and sanitary landfill behavior evaluation. He is also an qualified APEC engineer that is an international PE in Asia Pacific countries. He published more than sixty articles and book chapters. He was an invited lecturer for the Korean Geotechnical Society in geotechnical instrumentation and soft soil improvement area. Dr. Chung R. Song's primary teaching interests are in geotechnical engineering and geomechanics. His research interests are in the combination of noble theories and real field problems such as the behavior analysis of geotechnical structures, constitutive relations of geo-materials, nano mechanics, simulation of saturated/unsaturated soils using coupled theory of mixtures, numerical modeling, Calibration Chamber Testing, Soil Dynamics, soil-structure interaction, in situ and laboratory testing, geotechnical instrumentation, and pavement related geotechnical engineering.
