Brief Bio
Jim Zook serves as chief marketing and communications officer at the University of Mississippi, where he oversees university-wide efforts in media relations, digital and visual content, marketing and brand strategy, leadership and internal communications, and design services. He has directed the development of a new brand strategy, an overhaul of the university's admissions marketing, the redesign of a new website, and adoption of new technologies to support the Marketing & Communications function. Zook's career spans more than 30 years in a variety of leadership roles in corporate communications, consulting, and media. Previously, Zook served for nearly a decade in communications leadership roles at Deloitte, and as a change management consultant for the consulting firm Mercer. In addition, he worked as a speechwriter in the Office of the U.S. Secretary of Education, and as a reporter for The Chronicle of Higher Education, the Houston Chronicle and The Dallas Morning News. Zook earned a bachelor's degree in journalism and political science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and an MBA from the University of Texas at Austin. He serves on the executive committee of the APLU Council on Strategic Communications.
