Brief Bio
Kerry P. Holmes is Associate Professor of Curriculum and Instruction. Dr. Holmes received her Ed.D. from The University of Mississippi in 2000. Prior to teaching at the university, Dr. Holmes taught elementary school for seven years. Dr. Holmes works with teachers through The University of Mississippi Writing Institute. She has published numerous papers on reading and writing for children in grades K-12, and a book on ways to engage reluctant readers through foreign films with English subtitles. She has developed a lesson planning hierarchy for the selection of materials that is used by elementary education teacher candidates. Dr. Holmes is a program reviewer for NCATE/ACEI and is a member of the International Reading Association and the National Association for the Education of Young Children. Dr. Holmes teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in language arts, reading, and effective teaching practices.
