Brief Bio
Kirk A. Johnson is Associate Professor of Sociology and African-American Studies. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign in 1999. After teaching urban sociology and the sociohistory of ethnomedicine for five years at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, Dr. Johnson joined the Ole Miss faculty in 2005, where he studies news images of African-Americans. His most recent research is an analysis of network news imagery of post-Katrina looting in New Orleans. He also teaches undergraduate courses on the African-American Experience and Law & the African-American Community.
