Brief Bio
Mark Loftin is Professor and Chair of Health, Exercise Science & Recreation Management. Dr. Loftin received his Ph.D. in Kinesiology (Exercise Physiology) from the University of Illinois in 1985. Prior to joining the UM faculty in 2006, Dr. Loftin served at the University of New Orleans from 1984 - 2006. At UNO he collaborated with scholars from Tulane School of Public Health and Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center. Over the last 15 years, Dr. Loftin's research has focused on physiologic perspectives of childhood obesity. Dr. Loftin's external funding has included NIH and FDA clinical trial studies. Dr. Loftin is a fellow in the American College of Sports Medicine. His coursework at UM focuses on the cardiorespiratory response to exercise.
