Brief Bio
Dr. Brian Reithel is a Professor of Management Information Systems at The University of Mississippi. He has been actively teaching and consulting in the information technology area since 1984. In addition to serving as Dean of the School of Business Administration from 2003-2007, he has served in a variety of other leadership roles at Ole Miss over the past sixteen years including: Associate Vice Chancellor for University Relations, Co-Director of the successful $525 million Commitment to Excellence Campaign, Interim Director of the Trent Lott Leadership Institute, Co-Chair of the Sesquicentennial Celebration, and Chair of the MIS/POM Department. He has been recognized with several awards for excellence in teaching, research, and service over the last two decades. For example, at the Ole Miss School of Business Administration, he is a past recipient of the undergraduate Outstanding Teacher Award, the Favorite Teacher Award, and the MBA Teacher of the Year Award. A prolific scholar, he has authored or co-authored more than 80 research articles and papers for leading journals and scientific conferences. He is also a trusted source for the popular press on questions related to the interactions between emerging information technologies and evolving business trends who has appeared or been interviewed by the following: PC World magazine, Inc magazine, The New York Times newspaper, ComputerWorld, National Public Radio, Mississippi Public Broadcasting, Mississippi Business Journal, Delta Business Journal, Clarion Ledger newspaper, Monster.com, and Processor news. As an active member of the larger information technology community, he has served as an officer in several academic and professional organizations. In 2005, he served as the national President of the Association of IT Professionals – the world's oldest association for those in the information technology industry. He has also served as the President of the national Foundation for Information Technology Education for three years. A past recipient of the prestigious state-wide “Top 40 Under 40" award from the Mississippi Business Journal as well as the Mississippian of the Year award from the Jackson chapter of the Association of IT Professionals, Dr. Brian Reithel has been a member of the Ole Miss School of Business Administration faculty since 1991.
