Brief Bio
James D. Stafford is Associate Professor of Social Work and Associate Dean of the School of Applied Sciences. Dr. Stafford received his bachelor's degree from the University of Mississippi in 1975, master's degree from the University of Tennessee in 1978, and doctorate from the University of Alabama in 1991. After working for five years for the State Department of Human Services, Dr. Stafford joined the Social Work Program at Ole Miss in the Fall of 1980. He has served as an instructor, assistant professor, coordinator of field instruction, and associate professor. He became department chair in 1998, and served in this position until 2004, when he became Associate Dean. Dr. Stafford has taught in the fields of social welfare policy and social work research. He has most recently conducted research on the relationship between social work values and religion. As Associate Dean, Dr. Stafford chairs the school's Curriculum and Policy Committee, and has worked with student leaders to develop an annual career fair specifically designed for professions represented in the School of Applied Sciences. He is a member of Phi Kappa Phi.
