Brief Bio
William F. Lawhead is Professor Emeritus of Philosophy. He received his Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Texas at Austin in 1977. After a decade of teaching at several institutions, he joined the faculty of the University of Mississippi in 1980 as an Assistant Professor. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 1986 and Professor in 1997. He was Chair of the Department of Philosophy and Religion from Fall 2005 to Summer 2012. Dr. Lawhead has published several philosophy textbooks and a history of philosophy. He has published and presented papers in the history of philosophy and philosophy of religion. He was designated the Outstanding Teacher of the Year in the College of Liberal Arts in 1988 and given the University of Mississippi Humanities Teacher of the Year Award in 2002.
