ABSTRACT

Internet Intermediaries:  Do They Really Help the Consumer?

Online shopping has become a new fad.  Intermediaries help online consumers maneuver from one web page to another and then eventually to an Internet transaction.  There are several types of retail intermediaries, including business directories, online agents, and search engines.  The purpose of this research is to explore whether retail intermediaries help consumers find quality merchandise quickly and easily.  Intermediaries were chosen and put to the test.  The Internet intermediaries are a quicker way for consumers to find products and merchandise without driving from store to store or mall to mall.  However, the consumer might have to shop around the Internet using intermediaries to find a reasonable price and quality product.
