ABSTRACT

The Therapeutic Uses of Music in Society

Music is a medium that has been used for healing and calming for many centuries.  The use of music as a therapeutic science has only been practiced since the last century.  Because of its successes centuries ago, and today, Music Therapy is a thriving field with a bright future. Used in many different settings such as, hospitals, nursing homes, mental hospitals, and schools, Music Therapy crosses all barriers to assist diverse populations.  The purpose of my research is twofold, to define what Music Therapy is and to describe a few of its therapeutic values.
