ABSTRACT

Computer Science: Past and Present

In past computer science education courses, students were taught using sequential programming languages such as Fortran.  Today, many professors feel that this method of teaching is outdated and would like to teach students using a more effective method.  Lynn Stein, a professor at MIT, introduced the field of computer science to a new teaching method referred to as "Rethinking CS 101".  In this method, Stein implemented the use of robots in the classroom so that students can become more interactive when learning programming languages.  My research compares past computer science education with Lynn Stein's new way of thinking.
