ABSTRACT

Recruitment of High Quality Personnel in the Navy

The Navy uses statistics to find which incentives have had an effect on the recruitment of personnel.  Three different years of Navy statistics, 1990, 1996, and 1997, were used in the regression study. In the year 1990, the U.S. went through a recession, while in 1996 the economy flourished.  The research is used to determine if the roles of incentives change over the business cycle.  We consider statistics of enlistment bonuses, present value of college benefits, unemployment rate, percentage of Black and Hispanics, number of recruiters, the goals of the recruiters, population density, military wages, percentage of veterans in the state, and family income. Multiple regression analysis is used to determine which variables have the strongest effect.  The significant variables, recruiters, their goals, college benefits and enlistment bonuses, will be discussed and evaluated.  Afterwards, suggestions will be made to improve the study for future years.
