ABSTRACT

Displaying Interactive Mathematical Expressions for Online Courseware in IAEGS

Online education has become more popular among many educational institutions today.  Although this new way of learning/teaching finds its origins in the traditional classroom setting, it has become more popular and advanced than the traditional classroom.  At the present moment the University of Mississippi’s Institute for Advanced Education in Geospatial Sciences is working to offer fifty online courses in the area of Geospatial Sciences.  In order to make these online courses appropriate for the students’ needs, the Institute needs an application that allows mathematics to be displayed on the World Wide Web and an equation editor (tool) to generate this application. The application will pose no problem to find, but finding a tool that will be able to handle all of the advanced online courseware design requirements is not easy.
