ABSTRACT

Therapeutic Intervention Approaches to the Treatment of ADD/ADHD

This research focuses on the learning disability Attention Deficit Disorder/Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, and the steps taken to reverse the effects.  Research includes a brief history of ADD/ADHD, drug therapy, alternative approaches and the most beneficial way to treat and suppress the disorder.  It examines several drugs prescribed to children with ADD/ADHD, the benefits, and the controversial side-effects associated.  The deleterious reputation of several drugs used to treat the disorder calls for a healthier way to cure it.  Also researched is the typical child with ADD/ADHD, learning abilities, relationships with others, daily activity, and response to medical and therapeutic intervention. Does the role of drug therapy really benefit children with learning disabilities?  Are there other interventions that can treat ADD/ADHD without the inclusion of pharmaceutical drugs?  The goal is to discover the most effective and healthy way to treat this common learning disability.
