An Analytical Overview of Brown v. Board of Education and its
Relationship with the Mississippi Delta
| In conducting the following research, an extensive analysis will be provided to assess the impact of the two court decisions of Brown v. Board of Education on the public education system, particularly in the Mississippi Delta, an area of the country characterized by historic poverty and racism. The specifics of the law and its relationship to both public and private education will first be examined. Its association with the demography and profile of the Delta will then be presented. In carrying out the research, educational statistics, economic development data, interviews with key actors and personal observations will be analyzed and evaluated in determining the tangible effectiveness of the Brown decisions in the Mississippi Delta nearly fifty years after the initial rulings. |
