ABSTRACT

Comparing Emotional Regulation Strategies in Aggressive and Nonaggressive Boys

The purpose of the present study is to examine emotional regulation in reactive aggressive children.  Reactive aggressive and nonaggressive children were identified using teacher and peer ratings.  The children’s teachers completed a standardized measure of emotion regulation abilities for each youngster. Each student completed a sociometric measure of emotion regulation.  Findings show that relative to nonaggressive youngsters, aggressive children displayed poorer emotion regulation capabilities and higher levels of externalizing behavior problems.
