For excellence in pharmacy practice, Kristopher Harrell (PharmD 98) and Wesley Pitts (PharmD 00) were named fellows of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. Harrell, director of experiential affairs at the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy, and Pitts, clinical pharmacy manager at North Mississippi Medical Center and clinical assistant professor at the pharmacy school, received the once-in-a-lifetime honor in June at ASHP’s summer meeting and exhibition in Las Vegas.

Nearly 500 scientists from around the world will travel to Oxford next month to attend the joint American Society of Pharmacognosy Annual Meeting and International Conference on the Science of Botanicals. Hosted by the National Center for Natural Products Research, the joint Aug. 2-6 confab will be the Oxford Conference Center’s largest event to date.

For his commitment to students and pharmacy education, School of Pharmacy faculty member Jay Pitcock was inducted this spring into the Norman C. Nelson Order of Teaching Excellence at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. The order was created to recognize outstanding teachers in all of the professional schools at UMMC.

Jimmie Valentine (PhD 68) of Ocean Springs and his wife, Carrie, pledged $25,000 in unrestricted funds to the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy. Their gift is being used to help renovate the school’s skills laboratory. Unrestricted gifts enable the school’s dean to allocate funds to the school’s most important projects.
