Pharmacy Alumni Weekend to be held April 15-16

Last year, first-year professional pharmacy students took home a win at the School of Pharmacy Scholarship Golf Tournament.

The School of Pharmacy’s annual Alumni Weekend is right around the corner. To be held April 15-16, the weekend will honor the classes of 1956, 1966, 1976, 1986, 1991, 1996 and 2006 (Pharm.D.). With new events and new facilities to show off, the School of Pharmacy team is excited to welcome alumni, family and friends for this fun-filled weekend. Online registration is now open.

UM recognized among country’s elite research universities

The world-renowned National Center for Natural Products Research, located at UM, contributes to the university's ranking as an R-1 institution.

The University of Mississippi is included in the elite group of R-1: Doctoral Universities — Highest Research Activity by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. This recognition is afforded to only 2.5 percent of institutions of higher learning in the U.S. As such, the university is among a distinguished group that includes Harvard, MIT and Johns Hopkins.

Japanese partnership with pharmacy school grows stronger

Designed to foster global engagement and educational collaboration, a partnership between the School of Pharmacy and Japanese pharmacy colleagues has been highly successful for more than a decade. Manabu Suno and Tetsuya Aiba, both Okayama University professors, traveled to the school this month to expand their knowledge of problem-based learning and the professional pharmacy program.

Alumnus establishes pharmacy scholarship to honor mentor

Hailing from Brooksville, Mississippi, John Dewey Owings Jr. (BSPh 49) and Sidney Gerald “Jerry” Morgan (BSPh 72) developed a bond that started in an independent pharmacy. Inspired by his mentor, Morgan entered pharmacy school and modeled his community-focused mentality after Owings. Years later, Morgan has endowed a scholarship in honor of his friend.

Professor receives highest award from Egyptian university

Samir Ross (second from right) receives Assiut University’s Golden Shield.

Assiut University recently honored research professor Samir Ross with a Golden Shield award. As a foreign supervisor of Ph.D. students and research collaborator, Ross has worked with the university for more than 15 years. Ross also has a special connection to the university: He graduated from there and served on Assiut's faculty for more than 20 years.
