fter developing Tyson's RightWay Meds, Bob Lomenick (BSPh 77) has seen 100 percent of his patients enrolled in the service adhere to their medication regimens.

Lomenick is sharing the service with other independent community pharmacy owners across the country. Because of that work, Pharmacy Development Services Inc. named Lomenick, owner of Tyson Drug Co. in Holly Springs, its 2013 Entrepreneur of the Year.

Lomenick "is forging a new frontier in the field of pharmacy by providing a solution to the longtime issue of medication nonadherence with Tyson's RightWay Meds service," said a PDS news release announcing the award. "Without a doubt, [Lomenick's pharmacies] have become the country's most prominent and successful in providing a system dedicated to helping patients on multiple medications ensure they are taking the correct prescriptions at the correct times and avoid multiple trips to the pharmacy throughout the month."

Recipients of the PDS Inc. annual honor must exhibit commitment to the well-being of their customers and local community, dedication to growth of their team and business, and contributions to the independent pharmacy profession.

PDS Inc., a business development and marketing coaching firm for elite independent pharmacy owners, announced Lomenick as the recipient of its 2013 award at its annual conference in Orlando, Fla., in February.

A robot enables Bob Lomenick to put his patients' medications in strip packaging with the date and time each dose is to be taken stamped on it.

"Lomenick is dedicated to the success of his local business and the Holly Springs community," the PDS release said. "He and his team are committed to offering an extraordinary pharmacy experience through unique personal services, immunizations, comprehensive medication reviews, patient-centered diabetes and heart education classes, and a pharmacy setting where modern-day convenience meets old-fashioned customer service and excellent care."

In addition to his commitment to his employees and customers, Lomenick "is also an industry leader when it comes to supporting fellow independent pharmacies," the release said. "He has received national awards and recognition by his wholesaler (McKesson) and has become a highly valued consultant and trainer to other independent pharmacy owners throughout the country."

Lomenick, who owns pharmacies in Holly Springs and Potts Camp, as well as a home medical equipment supply in Holly Springs, got the idea for Tyson's RightWay Meds at a trade show in Las Vegas two-and-a-half years ago, after seeing a robot that was being sold to nursing homes.

"The robot allowed nursing homes to put their patients' medications in strip packaging with the date and time each dose is to be taken stamped on it," Lomenick said. "It's the closest we can come to holding a patient's hand and putting [his or her] medication in it."

Lomenick is using RightWay Meds to deliver medications to many of his patients taking multiple prescriptions.

"One-hundred percent of those patients are adherent to their regimens," he said. "I invite pharmacists from all over the country to come see it."
