Pharmacy administration announces Alumna of the Year
David J. McCaffrey presents a plaque to Tina Brock as a memento of her honor.
ina Penick Brock (BA 90, BSPh 90, MS 92), professor of clinical pharmacy and associate dean of teaching and learning at the University of California at San Francisco School of Pharmacy, was recognized as the 2013 Pharmacy Administration Alumna of the Year.
Brock said that she is honored to have been chosen and loved being back on campus.
"Being honored by the UM School of Pharmacy was both a humbling and delightful experience," she said. "I've always said that the opportunities I had and the mentoring I received at Ole Miss have served me well in my pharmacy adventures around the globe. During the school's awards ceremony, when the student body stood to recognize Dr. Wilson's sustained contributions to pharmacy education, it was clear to me that those educational values have remained strong despite the tremendous growth of the program.
"Thomas Wolfe was wrong – you really CAN go home again, as long as home is Oxford, Miss.!"
Donna West-Strum, chair of pharmacy administration, said, "I am excited that the faculty chose Tina Brock as our alumnus of the year. She is a leader in pharmacy and a great mentor for our graduate students who are interested in pharmacy academia."
Brock joined the UCSF faculty in July 2010 as a professor of clinical pharmacy. She was appointed to her current position in March 2011.
Brock has worked as a licensed pharmacist in community, hospital and professional association settings. She has also worked for Management Sciences for Health, a nongovernmental organization that serves to improve access to and use of medicines globally. The work took her throughout Sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia.
She was previously a senior lecturer at the University of London and clinical associate professor and director of student services at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Pharmacy.
Brock is heavily involved in professional leadership. She is past president of Phi Lambda Sigma, the national pharmacy leadership society.
She received a B.A. in German and a B.S. in pharmacy from the University of Mississippi and, two years later, earned a master's in pharmacy administration from Ole Miss. She then went on to earn a doctorate in education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
