Professor receives highest award from Egyptian university

professor at the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy has been presented with an award from one of the top universities in Egypt.
“The award is called the Golden Shield of the university,” said Samir Ross, who is a research professor in the Research Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences and a pharmacognosy professor. “It honors my long research collaboration with the School of Pharmacy at Assiut University.”
Ross has partnered with the university on various projects for more than 15 years. He is also the foreign supervisor for Ph.D. students at Assiut’s pharmacognosy department. Two of his students successfully defended their dissertations in the past eight months.
Not only does Ross have years of research collaboration with Assiut, but also he has a more personal history with the university.

“I graduated from Assiut University’s School of Pharmacy,” he said. “I was also a professor at the school from 1967 to 1990. It is a special place to me.”
Ross traveled to Egypt to accept the award in January.
“It means so much that I have received the highest award from my home university,” he said. “I am honored and humbled.”
School of Pharmacy Dean David D. Allen applauded Ross’ latest achievement.
“This is an incredible accomplishment for Dr. Ross,” Allen said. “We are so proud of him and thankful for his many contributions to the School of Pharmacy.”
