Are you registered for Pharmacy Alumni Weekend?

Reunion dinners are just one of the many activities associated with Pharmacy Weekend. Classes celebrating reunions this year are the classes of 1961, ’71, ’81, ’86, ’91 and 2001.

S

chool of Pharmacy alumni return to the Oxford campus March 25-26 for Pharmacy Weekend 2011. Classes celebrating reunions are the classes of 1961, ’71, ’81, ’86, ’91 and 2001.

Friday’s events begin with the UM School of Pharmacy Scholarship Golf Tournament presented by Rite Aid. One-hundred percent of the tournament’s proceeds fund the Pharmacy Alumni Chapter’s scholarship endowment.

Friday’s events close with the dean’s reception at 6 p.m. in Bryant Hall, just off the Circle in front of the Lyceum. Hosted by Barbara G. Wells, this year’s reception is sponsored, in part, by Bob Broadus and Allergen.

Saturday’s events begin at 8 a.m. with the annual Galen Order and pharmacy alumni breakfast in the Gertrude C. Ford Ballroom at The Inn at Ole Miss.

Continuing education programs begin at 9:15 a.m. in the Natural Products Center’s Centennial Auditorium:

  • “Do Ask, Do Tell: A Practical Approach to Smoking Cessation” by Sandra I. Bentley, Pharm.D.
  • “Nutrition for the Community Pharmacist” by Ashley W. Ellis, Pharm.D.
  • “Why Am I Losing My Foot: Understanding the Acute and Chronic Complications of Diabetes” by Matthew W. Strum, Pharm.D.
  • “Insulin: Past, Present and the Future,” also by Matthew W. Strum, Pharm.D.

Also on Saturday, Faser Hall will be open from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., so alumni can walk through the building to see upgrades there.

Special activities Saturday evening include a 6 p.m. reception and awards banquet and reunion dinner in the Ford Ballroom at The Inn. In addition to honoring reunion classes, the pharmacy school’s 2011 Distinguished Alumni Awards will be presented. Recipients are Phil Ayers of Ridgeland, Miss., a clinical specialist and team leader for clinical pharmacy services at Baptist Health Systems in Jackson; and David C. Hudson of Kosciusko, owner of Sullivan’s Discount Drugs.
