Brief Bio
Canadian collaborative pianist Amanda Johnston is Assistant Professor of Music. She enjoys a thriving career as a vocal coach and specialises in comparative diction. She is also on faculty at Lied Austria, an intensive international summer programme for singers in Leibnitz, Austria. As Artistic Director of "In Recital", she maintains a Toronto recital series showcasing Canadian singers and cultivating the art song. Professor Johnston was educated at Queen's University, the Hochschule fuer Musik "Franz Liszt" in Weimar, Germany and the Janacek Academy of Music in Brno, Czech Republic. She has held positions at the University of Toronto, Royal Conservatory of Music and York University, and has coached complete productions of Carmen, Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor, Die Fledermaus, L'elisir d'amore, Die Zauberfloete, Le nozze di Figaro, Rigolet and Don Giovanni. Professor Johnston teaches two courses in Advanced Diction for Singers at the University of Mississippi, and is the coach for the Opera Theatre.
