Come join in our Research
As a Carnegie-classified R1 research university, we conduct research that improves lives in Mississippi and far beyond.
Research at Ole Miss
Since our beginnings in 1844, we have been a leader in building new knowledge. As the state’s oldest university, we have long committed to providing research opportunities for faculty and students alike. Through programs led by the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP), we spend more than $86 million annually on projects across each of our 16 academic divisions.
Award-Winning Research Centers and Institutes
UM research is conducted by experts — but meant for all. As a public institution, we focus on research and scholarship that support the economic, health care, and cultural development of Mississippi, the region, and the nation. Whether helping communities cope with stormwater flooding or giving children the tools to become better readers, we share that knowledge as part of the discovery process.

Funded Research
Grants, fellowships, or other awards pay for all research, regardless of discipline. Our Pivot-RP database makes it easier to find grants and collaborators. If you’re a student, you can even be paid to participate in research projects — so you can get hands-on experience while covering the costs of your education.
