Biography
Dr. Thomas Oommen is a researcher and educator in geological and geotechnical engineering. He currently serves as a Professor and Chair of the Department of Geology and Geological Engineering at the University of Mississippi, School of Engineering. Prior to his role at the University of Mississippi, Dr. Oommen spent over a decade as a faculty member in the Geological Engineering program at Michigan Technological University, where he made significant contributions to research and education. Dr. Oommen’s work focuses on geohazard risk assessment, remote sensing applications, and the integration of artificial intelligence and machine learning to address complex geological engineering challenges. His interdisciplinary approach combines advanced computational modeling, geospatial intelligence, and field studies to enhance the understanding and mitigation of risks in geologically complex and vulnerable environments.
