Financial Aid Policies
Due to the sensitive nature of student financial information, we have a few policies to keep in mind when communicating with our office.
Office of Financial Aid – Policies
Please note: In order to discuss most student financial aid information in person, over the phone, or by email, parents/guardians must first be given authorization by the student through the student’s myOleMiss account. If, however, the parent is listed on the FAFSA or is the borrower of a Parent PLUS Loan, then they may receive information specific to those matters only, even if not directly authorized by the student.
To give a parent/guardian permission to discuss academic, student accounting, or financial aid matters, the student should go to the ‘Student’ tab, navigate to the “My Profile” application, and select the ‘Access for Relatives/Guardians’ option.
During Office Visit
All visitors must check in at the front desk. If access beyond the lobby and to the interior of the office is requested, individuals must be escorted by an Office of Financial Aid staff member.
The U.S. Department of Education provides guidance to schools regarding privacy and data security. As a result, students and parents must present valid and unexpired government issued identification (i.e. UM Student ID Card, Driver’s License, State Issued ID, Passport) to confirm their identity when inquiring about the status of the student’s financial aid. If unaccompanied by the student, parents must also be ready to provide the student’s full name, student UM ID number, student date of birth, and student permanent address.
Contacting Us by Phone
We have a convenient help line for your use. The Ole Miss Student Financial Services Help Line, 1-800-891-4596, accepts calls from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Students and parents should be prepared to provide student/parent full name, student UM ID number, student date of birth, and student permanent address at the beginning of each call.
Email Correspondence
Students must use their go.olemiss.edu email address when corresponding with an individual staff member or through our office email account.
Parents must use an email address that is listed on the student’s FAFSA or the email address that was provided by the student in the “Access for Relatives/Guardians” section of the myOleMiss portal. The student’s UM ID number will need to be included in the body of the message
