ESL Endorsement
Earn a supplement to a teacher's license for teaching English language learners.
English as a Second Language (ESL) Endorsement
Current and future licensed Mississippi teachers may enroll in TESOL program coursework for an add-on ESL Endorsement.
Required Courses
The required courses for the ESL Endorsement are:
- LIN 350/IE 542: Methods of Teaching ESL (IE 542 is soon to be LIN 542)
- LIN 510: Advanced English Grammar
- LIN 551: Assessment in SLA
- LIN 572: Cultural Dimensions of Lang Education
All ESL Endorsement courses are offered online and on-campus. ESL Endorsement is not itself a graduate degree.
Admission Requirements
A) Students applying for ESL Endorsement should submit the following materials online to the Graduate School:
- A completed graduate school application for admission
- One official transcript from each university/college attended
- A $50 application fee
- International students must also submit their official Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores (a minimum score of 80 for the internet-based test is preferred)
- Students should apply as a non-degree seeking student
B) International Students: Submit a financial statement which certifies funds for educational and living expenses to the International Programs Office.
C) Endorsement Application: Once students are admitted to the graduate school as non-degree seeking students, they may enroll in the required coursework. After they have completed the required coursework, students must contact Dr. Whitney Webb to apply for the ESL Endorsement.
