Why join the Arabic Language Flagship at the University of Mississippi?

As one of three Arabic Flagship programs across the country, the title of “Flagship” already sets the UM Arabic program apart. In addition, our competitive-entry program is distinctive in several ways.

  • The program features an exclusive and fast-paced curriculum beginning from Day One that allows students to make strong, consistent gains every semester, from the pre-freshmen summer to the Capstone year in Morocco. Our summer program at UM the summer before freshman year allows students to learn an
entire year’s worth of Arabic in the span of two months, and even students who have
previously studied Arabic find this summer extremely beneficial.

After this summer, students may spend an additional summer or semester abroad, making them very well equipped to embark on their Capstone year in Meknes, Morocco.
  • We partner with the Modern Languages Center in Amman, Jordan, and the AALIM Center in Meknes, Morocco, to provide the highest quality of study abroad experiences for our students. In addition to these programs, our students will apply for additional opportunities, such as the Critical Languages Scholarship and CET Study Abroad, to utilize the skills they learned in the classroom in a real-world setting.
  • Students in our program are extremely prepared for the intensive Capstone year in Meknes, Morocco. Often during the qualifying exams for Capstone, our students not only meet, but exceed the minimum requirements to participate in this exclusive study abroad only offered to Flagship programs.
  • Strong backing from the university recognizes the achievements and challenges of Flagship students. Flagship students are exceptional, and various departments of the university work together to provide significant academic, financial, and logistical support to the program.
  • A strong set of specialized and selective UM programs that students can apply to, and, if accepted, can provide them with a world class education and specialized skills that, along with unheard-of language proficiency, make them extremely competitive in the job market.
