Staff Appreciation Week Offers Variety of Events

Ole Miss employees honored for years of service May 13-17

OXFORD, Miss. – University of Mississippi staff members will have opportunities to unwind after the spring semester with a series of activities set May 13-17 during Staff Appreciation Week.

Sponsored by the Staff Council, the weeklong celebration includes social gatherings, learning opportunities and active events. The Turner Center and South Campus Recreation Center will be available to faculty and staff free of charge during the week with an Ole Miss ID card.

"The week is filled with a packed schedule of activities, social and recreational," said Deetra Wiley, project manager and Staff Council president. "Staff are encouraged to take full advantage of all this week has to offer.

"Family Fun Night will be a bigger event this year, with music by a blues group, sno-cone and popcorn stands, face painting, stuff-a-pup stations and a chance to win some great prizes."

Events include:

Monday (May 13)

  • Nature Power Hike: A Red, Blue & Well Event – 10-11 a.m., South Campus Rail Trail. Limited number of spots available. Sign up here.
  • Bike the Rail Trails with Ole Miss Outdoors – Noon-1 p.m., South Campus Rail Trail
  • Table tennis tournament – 2-3:30 p.m., Facilities Management break room.

Tuesday (May 14)

  • Guided Meditation with the UM Counseling Center: A Red, Blue & Well Event – 8:30-9:30 a.m., Paris-Yates Chapel courtyard. Rain location: Paris-Yates Chapel. Bring a mat or towel.
  • Painting with Studio Whimzy – 10-11 a.m., Jackson Avenue Center
  • Cornhole tournament – Noon-1:30 p.m., Facilities Management break room
  • Line Dancing 101 – 2-3 p.m., Johnson Commons ballroom.

Wednesday (May 15)

  • Music and Meditation – 10-11 a.m., Paris-Yates Chapel
  • Blood drive – 11 a.m.-3 p.m., the Circle
  • Painting with Studio Whimzy – Noon-1 p.m., Jackson Avenue Center
  • Pickleball tournament – Noon-1:30 p.m., Turner Center pickleball courts. A short "How-To-Play" clinic precedes the event at 11 a.m.
  • Chair Yoga and FroYo popsicles: A Red, Blue & Well Event – 2-3 p.m., Jackson Avenue Center.

Thursday (May 16)  

  • Bingo – 9-10 a.m., Jackson Avenue Center
  • Plant swap – 10:30 a.m.-noon, Grove Stage
  • Basketball tournament – 12:15-2:15 p.m., Turner Center
  • Family Fun Night – 5-7 p.m., the Grove.

Friday (May 17)

  • Staff Appreciation Awards Ceremony and Luncheon – 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Ceremony at 10:30 a.m. at the Grove Stage
  • Bingo – 1-3 p.m., Jackson Avenue Center
  • RECess in The Grove: A Red, Blue & Well Event – 3:15-4:15 p.m., the Grove. Featuring corn hole, tug of war, Kan Jam, giant Connect 4, hoop shoot and spike ball.
