Memorial Day Message from Chancellor Boyce 2026

The seal of the University of Mississippi.

On Memorial Day, we pause to remember the men and women who died while serving our country. We also extend our deepest respect to the friends, families and communities who carry the weight of their loss today and every day.

The men and women we honor today answered a call larger than themselves. We honor their memories and the principles of freedom and human dignity for which they gave their lives. Their service and sacrifice are not forgotten.

As a university community with approximately 2,000 military-connected students, we also take this day as an opportunity to express our profound appreciation to the dedicated members of the Ole Miss military family, including our veterans, our active-duty service members, those preparing to serve, and their loved ones. We are deeply grateful that you are part of the Ole Miss community.

I invite everyone in our community to observe a minute of silence at 3 p.m. on Memorial Day, as part of the National Moment of Remembrance, to honor those who have died in military service.
