Kathleen McGuire

Dr. Kathleen McGuire is an Instructor of American History in the Department of History at the University of Mississippi.

Research Interests

Dr. McGuire's specialization includes 19th-century America history and public history. She has served as an instructor in American history survey courses for over 15 years. Her survey courses emphasize the development of historical skills that apply across disciplines – including the analysis of primary sources, the development of historical arguments, and the ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms.

Additionally, Dr. McGuire routinely teaches courses on Public History and Digital History in support of both the History major and Museum Studies minor. Combining theoretical study with practical experiences, these courses offer University of Mississippi students the opportunity to apply the historian’s craft to their own studies by engaging directly with the university’s past. Student projects from these courses can be found in the University of Mississippi’s eGrove repository.
