Kristopher Harrell

I am the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, which means I am responsible (and LOVE) all things academic!

Research Interests

Dr. Harrell’s research efforts are focused on health promotion and disease prevention, student development, and experiential education. Areas of concentration most recently have been in cardiovascular disease, childhood obesity, and student engagement in practice experiences. He is also interested in studying best approaches for preceptor development, quality assurance of experiential sites, and student self-awareness in academic success as related to personal and professional development.

Biography

Dr. Kris Harrell is Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Professor of Pharmacy Practice at the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy. He received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Mississippi and completed a pharmacy practice residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Health-System and a primary care residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He also completed a Master of Arts in Higher Education and Student Personnel degree from the University of Mississippi. Dr. Harrell is a member of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, where he has served on the Professional Affairs, Student Affairs, and the Council of Faculties Faculty Affairs committees, as well as chair of the Master Preceptor Advisory Board and chair of the Experiential Education section’s Health and Wellness committee. Dr. Harrell is also a member and past president of the Mississippi Society of Health-System Pharmacists and a member of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, and for the latter he was designated as a fellow. Dr. Harrell is passionate about student development and student success and as a native rural Mississippian is proud to have been the recipient of a Hearin Foundation grant that over five years will award more than $600,000 in scholarships to rural Mississippi student pharmacists as part of the School’s PRUDENT Scholarship program.
