Biography

Tyler Barnes, a second-generation artist, originally from Alexandria, Louisiana, received his BFA in Graphic Communications from Northwestern State University, Natchitoches, Louisiana in 2008 and his MFA in Graphic Design from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi in 2016.
 
With over 15 years in the graphic design industry, Tyler has maintained his professional design practice, T.Barnes Graphics, since 2009. Throughout his career, Tyler has worked in a number of professional design studios and continues a working relationship as a brand specialist, with Artfly Design. Tyler’s specialties include brand strategy, visual identity systems + logo design, typography, and packaging. His research subjectivities lie in brand development and its impacts on community and commerce, and his experience in the creative process, conceptual thinking, visual actualization, and brand strategy has framed his curriculum development.
 
Tyler Barnes’ professional work has been recognized regionally, nationally, and internationally in a multitude of competitive venues. His work has earned 20 American Advertising Federation Awards, including 5 district ADDYS®; and he has been featured in several publications including UnderConsideration’s: For Print Only, Creative Quarterly, Graphic Design USA, and the Logo Lounge Book Series. Tyler has also been featured in several exhibitions including The OSO BAY Biennial, juried by James Victore and The Art of the Poster, National Juried Exhibition, juried by Celene Aubry, Associate Director of Hatch Show Print.
 
He is currently an Associate Professor of Art | Graphic Design at the University of Mississippi and has been teaching since 2016.
