Biography
Dr. Srinivas S. Pulugurtha is currently working as the Professor & Chair of the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Mississippi. He has worked in diverse fields of transportation, like traffic safety, alternative modes of transportation, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and connected and automated vehicles, transportation system planning, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applications, data analytics and visualization, traffic operations, Internet applications, artificial intelligence (AI) techniques, and operations research applications. Dr. Pulugurtha has led 85 sponsored projects/grants totaling more than $12 million in external funding as Principal Investigator (PI) or co-PI. He authored/co-authored 260 peer-reviewed publications (including 138 journal papers) and 300 technical presentations at international, national, regional and local conferences. His research accomplishments were recognized with three “best research paper” awards. He served as a member of several professional committees, conference steering committees, and journal editorial boards. He has also advised, mentored and graduated 18 Ph.D. students (dissertations) and 59 M.S. students (thesis/projects). Prior to his current appointments at the University of Mississippi, Dr. Pulugurtha worked as a faculty in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte from 2005 to 2024 and as an Assistant Director and Assistant Research Professor of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas - Transportation Research Center (UNLV-TRC) from September 1998 to August of 2005. Dr. Pulugurtha is a registered Professional Engineer (Civil) in the State of North Carolina and a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). He received his B.Tech. in Civil Engineering from the Nagarjuna University, India in 1992, M.Tech. in Civil Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, India in 1995, and Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 1998.
