    Dr. Carlos R. Clark has more than 30 years of experience in two-year, four-year public and four-year private institutions. Until recently, Dr. Clark served as an independent contractor at Financial Aid Services, LLC (FAS) and provided Interim Staffing, Consulting and Assessment services to improve business processes strengthen compliance efforts and enhance student satisfaction at institutions throughout the country. On June 1, 2024, Dr. Clark was named the Executive Director of Enrollment Management at Cheyney University of Pennsylvania in Cheyney, Pennsylvania. Established in 1837, Cheyney University of Pennsylvania is the nation’s first Historically Black College and University (HBCU) and is part of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE). In his new role, Dr. Clark facilitates the development and implementation of the University’s strategic enrollment management plan, promotes institution-wide recruitment, retention and completion of initiatives, and collaborates with faculty, staff, administrators, student organizations, and community groups to ensure all students have access to all resources. Dr. Clark’s previous experience includes tenure as Director of Financial Aid, Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management, Vice President for Student Affairs, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, and President at several institutions. Dr. Clark has experience in a number of higher education functions that include, but are not limited to: Financial Aid, Admissions, Registrar, Housing, Higher Education Executive Administration, Academic Affairs, Reaffirmation of Accreditation (e.g., SACSCOC, HLC, MSCHE), Institutional Research and Assessment, Alumni Affairs, Institutional Advancement, and Higher Education Finance (e.g. developing financial statements, financial analysis, etc.). Dr. Clark received his Bachelors of Business Administration – Management, Bachelors of Arts – English, Masters of Arts – Higher Education Administration, and Doctor of Philosophy – Higher Education Administration, all from The University of Mississippi. He has also received a Certificate of Completion from Harvard University’s Management Development Program (MDP).

Why did you choose to attend the University of Mississippi?

I chose to attend the University of Mississippi due to its strong academic reputation, vibrant campus life, and supportive community. The university offered a diverse range of programs that were aligned with my interests, providing ample opportunities for personal and professional growth. Additionally, the welcoming atmosphere and sense of tradition at Ole Miss played a significant role in my decision, making it the ideal environment for my journey in higher education.

Tell us about a favorite memory, professor, and/or academic course during your time at the School of Education:

One of my favorite memories at The University of Mississippi was my Educational Leadership class taught by Dr. Ronald Partridge. It profoundly impacted my view of leadership in higher education and policymaking and shaped my career path in post-secondary education.

What does this award mean to you?

Being selected as a 2024 University of Mississippi School of Education Practitioner of Distinction is a profound honor. It recognizes my dedication, hard work, and contributions to the field of higher education. This accolade validates my commitment to excellence and innovation in higher educational practice and inspires me to continue making a positive impact in academia. It also reflects the values and quality education I received at The University of Mississippi, highlighting the institution's role in shaping my professional journey and achievements.

Do you have any advice for our current students who are pursuing a similar career path?

My advice for current students pursuing a career in education is to stay passionate and committed to lifelong learning. Embrace every opportunity for hands-on experience, seek mentorship from seasoned professionals, and stay adaptable to changes in the educational landscape. Focus on building strong relationships and networks, as collaboration is key in this field. Lastly, remain dedicated to making a positive impact on students' lives, as this will be the most rewarding aspect of your career.
