Undergraduate Spotlight
What attracted you to the Department of Art & Art History?
Because I am from Oxford I did not want to go to Ole Miss at first. However, when I visited the art department I fell in love with the program. Tyler Barnes gave me a tour of the building and spoke with such passion and excitement. I saw work from past students and became inspired.
What type of artwork do you create and can you discuss your process?
I work a lot with branding design and packaging design. I enjoy researching before I start a project. I work with illustrator and photoshop to create dynamic designs. I love experimenting with typography, hand drawn elements, textures, and color.
What has been your favorite class during your years here?
My favorite class has been branding design.
Do you have a favorite memory here in the department?
My favorite memory can not be defined by one event. The best memories came from late nights in the studio where conversation blossomed and you really got to know eachother.
Do you have any advice for incoming art students?
Do not be afraid to make new friends and relationships with your professors and classmates. Those are the people that will help you get through college and support your dreams.
Which professors inspired you the most?
Tyler Barnes has been such a great influence and professor. I have grown greatly as a designer under his guidance. He is everything a professor should be. Tyler truly wants his students to succeed.
Do you have any hobbies outside of the art department?
I enjoy singing and hanging out with my friends and family.
What is your favorite thing about Oxford or the University?
I have lived in Oxford since I was three years old, but the University of Mississippi was a whole knew world that I am grateful to be apart of. My favorite part has been the relationships I have made with fellow classmates and the opportunity to learn and grow with the direction of talented professors.
Do you have any plans after graduation?
I hope to apply to jobs in cities outside of Mississippi to further my career as a graphic designer.
