What are some of your favorite memories at UM?
I absolutely loved my time at UM and am so glad I chose to receive my undergraduate education
there. One of my favorite memories was defending my Honors thesis in the Sally McDonald
Barksdale Honors College my senior year as I had poured so much time, energy, and passion into the
project which fully ended up setting me up on my career path in children's books. It was also great
beating Alabama in football that year!

What has been your career/educational path since you earned the undergraduate degree?
After graduating with my Bachelor's degree, I ended up working as the admissions counselor for the
Honors college for a couple of years before pursuing a Master's degree in Children's Literature at the
University of Reading in the UK. After graduate school, I moved back stateside and began working in
children's book publishing which I continue to do today.

What is the value of your liberal arts degree for your career and life?
A liberal arts education gave me tons of skills that I use daily in my corporate marketing job; critical
thinking, project management, presentation skills, and a wider range of general knowledge and
experience.

How did you find the path to your major as an undergraduate?
Because I had such an array of
interests all within the scope of humanities, my advisor suggested the Liberal Studies major [now the
Interdisciplinary Studies major] where I could curate several minors into a well-balanced liberal arts
degree. I ended up minoring in Theatre, History, Political Science, and English.

Why study at the University of Mississippi?
Mississippi? If you want a combination of a robust, fascinating, and
challenging liberal arts education with mostly smaller and engaging seminars as well as having an
engaging, busy, and frankly just plain fun college life, the University of Mississippi is an amazing
place to receive that balance. I both took some of the most interesting courses I could imagine with
professors who cared deeply for both the subject matter and their students while truly creating a
home and family within the Ole Miss community.
