Undergraduate Spotlight
What attracted you to the Department of Art & Art History?
I was attracted to the department because of the museum studies minor!
What type of artwork do you create and can you discuss your process?
I create interdisciplinary work about Southern culture and domestic roles. I look into my family history and weave together stories of shared trauma and how they trickle down to each generation.
Which artists do you look to for inspiration?
Some artists I'm inspired by are Joe Minter and Kara Walker
Which professors inspired you the most?
Every single professor I've had has inspired me in some way. Durant Thompson, Stacey Rathert, and Kaleena Stasiak have really been able to pull amazing concepts and artwork out of me.
What has been your favorite class during your years here?
My favorite class was probably my Intermediate Printmaking class. All of my friends were there and we just had such a good time with each other!
Do you have a favorite memory here in the department?
My favorite memory would probably be late nights in the painting studio, laughing with my friends and classmates while we worked on paintings.
Do you have any advice for incoming art students?
Talk to People! Take classes that intimidate you. Make friends with your professors.
Do you have any hobbies outside of the art department?
I enjoy writing poems and short stories in my free time!
Do you have any plans after graduation?
I am heading to Graduate School in the Fall! I will be attending the University of Arkansas. Woo Pig Sooie!
