What led you to want to serve on the School of Education Board of Advisors?

As an alumna, it is an extreme honor to be able to serve as a board member and give back to the school that gave me so many opportunities and helped me accomplish my dreams. I decided to be a part of the Board of Advisors because I want to support the School of Education in advancing its mission by tapping into unrealized opportunities that will better support its students, faculty, staff, and larger local and state education initiatives.

Why did you choose to attend UM and the School of Education?

Amongst the many positive attributes that the School of Education has, I choose to attend for two primary reasons. First, the passion and dedication that the faculty and staff have to its students is unmatched. Faculty and staff seem to genuinely care about not only students’ success during their tenure as students but also how they help set them up for success beyond graduation. In addition, the School of Education provides a rigorous curriculum that is filled with valuable experiential learning opportunities.

Tell us about your favorite professor(s) at the School of Education? How did they make a positive impact on your professional and personal pursuits?

My favorite professors during my time as a student in the School of Education are inclusive of individuals who may not have taught me but made a positive impact through their leadership. This includes Dr. Joe Sweeney, Dr. Sara Platt, Dr. Phillis George, Dr. Ann Monroe, Dr. Andy Mullins, Dr. Karen Davidson-Smith, Dr. Amy Wells Dolan, Dr. Macey Edmondson, Dr. Hunter Taylor, Dr. Kerry Melear, and Dr. Whitney Webb, Dr. David Rock, Dr. Susan McClelland, Dr. Ty McNamee, and Dr. George McClellan. So, huge thank you to them!!

These educators provided me with a safe educational environment that included a healthy amount of challenge. In other words, I knew they cared, but I also knew they wouldn’t let me sit and settle for second best and not meet my full potential. They supported learning experiences that effectively prepared me for each area of education I’ve come in contact with during my almost decade as an education professional.

Tell us about your proudest moment in education.

My proudest moment in education was helping my students identify their passion and create a plan of action to accomplish the goals they had centered around their passion. This is still ongoing.
