Get to Know Sanford Thomas
Sanford C. Thomas grew up on the family farm in Cruger, Mississippi, overlooking the Yazoo River where his family farmed cotton and soybeans in Leflore, Carroll, and Holmes counties. He was a member of the Greenwood Swim Team as well as his high school tennis and track teams. He received the BA degree in psychology from UM in 1978, and JD from Mississippi College School of Law in 1982. He currently is a financial services professional involved in a family private equity business including the management of two “fund of funds” hedge funds.
Besides the College of Liberal Arts Alumni Advisory Board, Mr. Thomas serves on the following boards: Presbyterian Day School of Memphis, Hutchison School in Memphis, Investment Committee for Ignite Fund II in Walnut Creek, California, and Goose Creek Racquet Club and Fitness Center in Oxford. Some of his past leadership positions include the stewardship committees of the Chapel of the Cross Episcopal Church in Madison, MS and St. Peters Episcopal Church in Oxford. More recently he served on the board of Oxford University School.
Sanford is married to Susan (Sullivan) who received her Bachelor of Business Administration from UM in 1988. They reside in Memphis with their three children, daughters Anna Rose and Betty Jane and son Tol.
