Biography
What were some of your favorite memories at UM?
My favorite memories at UM revolve around playing on the Ole Miss Rugby Football Club and the relationships and experiences we had over my 4 years. I also have very fond memories of the Honors Freshman Retreat at Jim Barksdale's Riverdale Ranch, helping with the 2008 Presidential Debate, working on my capstone research project in Dr. Pedigo's biochemistry lab, teaching as a biology lab TA, my campus job at the National Center for Natural Products Research's extraction lab, and listening to Colin Powell speak at my final Honors Convocation. From a sports perspective, I always enjoyed midweek baseball/basketball games. We hosted 2 super regionals and went to a 3rd during my time. My senior year, I was able to go to the LSU/Ole Miss football game in Baton Rouge that we won and attend the Cotton Bowl that year.

What is the value of your liberal arts degree for your career and life?
Immensely valuable to invaluable. Without my degree I would not have been able to pursue my calling to become a surgeon. My degree paved the way for medical school and residency. While in residency, I met my wife and now with our sons growing up my family/life goals are fulfilled.

How did you find the path to your major as an undergraduate?
I knew in junior high that I wanted to become a surgeon, and in high school I enjoyed chemistry and biology. UM's biochemistry track had a record of high acceptance rate into medical school. I enrolled as a biochem major and never changed.
