Meet Aevari Kotil
What is your major and why did you choose it?
I am majoring in Allied Health Studies intending to go into Nursing! I particularly love the large scope of opportunities this career path offers - whether it's through specialization, work setting, or location - it allows me to flexibly explore and practice healthcare, and meet my needs. I enjoy my classes and the workload that follows! I also enjoy the community that pre-health majors and the HPAO office provide me with, as well!
Why did you decide to pursue this health profession?
The nature of nursing is so flexible in the way that it provides so many opportunities and paths to pursue. I love working with others and doing everything possible to help people in need of all ages. I have a very outgoing and loving personality, making it enjoyable to work in groups and form relationships easily. I also love spending time giving back to my community and make it a priority of mine to do so. Volunteering is a passion of mine, as I feel the most fulfilled when I am able to work hands-on with my community and make a difference, big or small. Since high school, the intricacy of anatomy and physiology has been something that has always come easy to me, too. I love studying the minute details of each of the structures along with understanding how each complex process contributes to the overall functioning of the human body. I've always known I was meant to be a part of healthcare!
How has HPAO helped you?
HPAO has been nothing short of an amazing resource to me! Dr. Bilbo specifically has been so helpful and a strong support system for me during my time as a student at the University of Mississippi. He has helped me find my way to nursing, paired me with classes that not only meet my major's criteria but are something I thoroughly enjoy studying, and provided me with advice and the resources that I need to ultimately reach my goals. The staff of HPAO have recommended plentiful opportunities that have helped me get more involved on campus and with my major as a whole. For example, HPAO had recommended applying for AED (Pre-Health Professionals Honors Society), the Pre-Nursing Society, the SI leader position for A&P, and the HPAO ambassador position. I am so thankful for HPAO and its commitment to helping me and other students become more well-rounded individuals, as their impact has had an incredible difference in my academic career and personal growth.
What is your most memorable experience working with HPAO?
Building a relationship and working with my advisor over the last few years has meant the world to me! Dr. Bilbo has helped me build my resume, encouraged me to take challenging courses, helped me become a more competitive candidate as the nursing application deadline approaches, and has helped better me into a more well-rounded and versatile individual. Dr. Bilbo has been extremely reliable and an all-around amazing resource to me within the HPAO office. More specifically, he answers my emails efficiently and thoroughly, allows me to walk into the office and answer any questions I may have at any time of the day, and has been an academic reference on my application to be an SI leader for A&P. I couldn't be more grateful for his patience and reassurance as I navigate my way through my undergrad years!
What are your career goals?
Following the 4 + 1 Accelerated BSN track, I will continue to nursing school in Oxford after graduating next spring. I aspire to be a Nurse Anesthetist and possibly work in pediatrics as well! I am also interested in being a travel nurse during my career, as traveling is something I want to incorporate into my future. My favorite thing about Nursing is that I will be able to achieve all of my aspirations and goals, due to the large range of opportunities and flexible nature that lie in this healthcare field!
What is your favorite meal in Oxford?

What are you the happiest doing when you are not studying?
I am the happiest when I can spend time with my friends, working out at South Campus Rec, running on the trails around Oxford, volunteering, going shopping, or grabbing coffee at High Point with a book in hand!
Where is your favorite study spot?
High Point, Heartbreak Coffee on the Square, or Oxford Creamery.
